What You Can Do

Currently BaseCamp International Centers has placements that fall into five distinct categories. These categories will allow you to clearly determine where your skills will be best utilized and where your interests are best met. Although skills and experience are important, a sincere willingness to learn and contribute is often all that is required to make a valuable impact.

Health and Medical placements provide volunteers with the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including small rural health clinics, public and private hospitals, rehabilitation centers, dental offices, fire stations and x-ray clinics.

Teaching placements vary from assisting students in small rural schools and larger inner-city schools to learn English, math, computers, art and physical education. Teaching placements can also include community awareness campaigns on important issues such as environmental education, HIV/AIDS awareness training, and hygiene.

Conservation placements provide volunteers with the opportunity to work in a range of breath taking locations, from National Parks to local beaches, volcanic sites and ranches. Volunteers will be able to directly assist in the protection of a variety of endangered wildlife, flora and fauna, Eco-systems, and environmental and agriculturally sensitive areas.

The variety of social placements is vast. BaseCamp currently facilitates placements with organizations that support outreach programs for street children, care for children at orphanages, literacy promotion, equal rights for women, crisis counselling, micro finance, fair trade, radio programs, and website and graphic design. Just to name a few!

Building placements change monthly as needs vary. In the past volunteers have helped to build homes, hospitals, clinics, schools and libraries.
